For the Love of Gaming...

KO Studio Games was established in 2023. Our goal? To craft games that are fun at their core.

We are an eclectic group of Scottish misfits with a passion for all things gaming.

Our industry experience is boundless; collectively we have years on the clock when it comes to game development and in 2023, we decided to band together to launch

KO Studio Games.

Our team can cover everything from Branding and Design to Storytelling and World Building. Producing AAA quality games with the flexibility of an independent studio is our goal and we are looking to go even further soon to collaborate with other Indie Studios to help launch new games.

Until then we travel the UK attending various gaming events to showcase our current games and any exciting new updates. You can find us participating at the Insomnia Gaming Festival in Birmingham, Medway Gaming Festival in Chatham, Rapture Festival in Fife and many more!

WHAT WE VALUE

We believe collaboration lies at the heart of innovative gaming

Branding

Visual identity plays a crucial role in shaping an individual's perception of a game or product. The message it conveys holds the key to the success or failure of a brand, whether it's a new entrant or an established one. We are firm believers that quality is what initially captivates an audience and ultimately earns their loyalty. Our top priority is to create visuals that not only captivate but also leave a lasting and distinctive impression.

Storytelling

Each game idea we explore begins with storybuilding. We dig deep into our characters background, draw on our own experiences about the games we love and place this into context grounding. It's all about the details! Big or small! As we build a product or game, we consider ways of how to keep a player engaged by holding their focus through exciting gameplay elements that flow from the visualisation process. Who doesn't love a good story or a strong, loveable character...

DESIGN

The player must drive the game forward therefore it is crucial to consider communication and appeal through design.

We take into consideration the players role and their purpose. Communicating this through environmental and "clue" factors is hugely important in helping the player to progress. Appeal can vary from action-paced realism with stunning imagery to puzzle solving and story interest. Prototyping is where we find the most value in testing out our ideas in a simplified format.

development

Pre-production, Production and Post-Production is a multidepartment collaboration (what a mouthful!) This is where the Game Design Documentation comes in; essentially our bible to which we refer to at every stage of our builds. We recognise the importance of communication in planning art production, technical design, testing and concept to maintain the flow and structure of our games. Game balancing, level design and testing of features are all considered very carefully before being carried into QA and testing.

WITH US!

WORK CULTURE AND INCLUSION

Our culture is collaborative and supportive, we want everyone to achieve their goals and continuously push themselves to be better. Your mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing will always be a priority, we value diversity, inclusion and perspective. The only expectation we have of our employee's is that they bring a passion for gaming and a determination to better themselves by seizing any opportunity that would interest or excite them.

FLEXIBILITY AND REMOTE WORKING

Since the COVID pandemic hit the world in 2020 there has been dramatic change to workforce and how the games industry protects their staff whilst still managing productivity; we are no different. We have all since learned that remote working can and is an effective, positive work environment that makes for a happy team. We fully encourage all fur and paw staff members at home to provide that necessary serotonin boost during the workday! They are also invited to participate in our weekly staff meetings where possible. Person to person contact is always still encouraged but we want to ensure that everyone has that choice.

EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Perhaps an area of KO Games Studio that we are always excited by. The chance to attend events, exclusive game hosting and meeting with our sponsors. Not forgetting of course meeting the gamers who form our fantastic communities in all our favourite games. Insomnia Gaming Festival, Medway and PG Connects are amongst our absolute favourite UK and international events every year where we showcase at our own booth all the latest updates and exciting developments of what we are working on.

DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING

We are 100% onboard with cross-department learning, having a broad range of skills across our team allows us to collaborate in a more successful way. Any opportunities for additional learning are always encouraged and we endeavour to support this as much as possible within and out with the studio. Adding new and exciting methods to our game building is how we love to learn; so, if there is an area of Unity you've been looking to explore, or you feel that you'd like to dip your toe into art or design we fully encourage this.

CELEBRATION AND FUN

We are at times so consumed by the process of completing our goals that we forget to stop and celebrate the wins, big or small!

This concept is seen in numerous work environments, but we strive at KO Games Studio to praise ourselves for a job well done and take the time to enjoy what we have successfully built. Social bonding, a happy, healthy, work culture and enjoying coming to your work is just as an important goal to strive for as company growth is.
